Bassist/vocalist Gene Janas left this note about his new recording project with multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Hayden Shurdut and I feel like there’s little left to say. Janas’ main gig with the fire-jazz unit Owl Xounds seems to be on temporary hiatus, so RAY-GUN is a welcome venture into a new language. Janas grunts spoken word over the squeal of his upright while Shurdut moves around the alto sax, trumpet and piano, playing colors outside/through/above the lines. This is indeed some serious cleansing music. Black artwork printed onto 5″x5″ heavy red cardstock folded into a sturdy mylar sleeve. Hand-numbered edition of 78.
