… if Eluvium reinterpreted My Bloody Valentine’s song segues from Loveless and expanded them to the breaking point. - Skyscraper #29 (Read the full review.)

No More Paths to Sounder Sleep is glorious–the home of epic drone and soundscapes that accompany every high in life… It’s the delivery of such high-end product that separates No More Paths from its predecessors. - Electronic Voice Phenomenon

…one of - if not the most - heart-achingly beautiful releases of the year. - Ghost Don’t Walk

On the debut CD from Chartreuse, guitar melodies are weighed down by the murky and melancholic bliss of strings and loops swarming the headphones. The organ drones seep through the earth as if heard by a tape recorder buried underground. No More Paths to Sounder Sleep is a trance-inducing soundtrack to the end of the night.

Drew Smith comes from a punk/thrash-metal pedigree, having drummed for multiple Athens, Georgia bands. While still involved in loud and chaotic music (his recently-formed Chrissakes pays nice tribute to Shellac), Smith’s Chartreuse came as a result of finding a different way to be heavy.

Early demos showed an affinity for Fripp & Eno’s legendary collaborations, but now on No More Paths, Chartreuse puts more of a plodding pulse to its base, drenched in earthy tones and heart-breaking melodies beautifully mastered by Shelby Cinca (Frodus).

In addition to the digipak release, No More Paths is also available in a special edition of 200 copies with handmade artwork and a bonus 3″ CDr of an early Chartreuse demo.

REVIEWS

[Drew Smith] creates dense textures that are drowsily layered and looped like a self propelled toy that has been wound and let loose to amble along aimlessly. - Forest Gospel

The blunt intrusion of granite which fills the cover art reveals both the structure and subsequent erosion within, an early Tarantelic simplicity chewed by extensive production into a synthetic Basinski drone. - Animal Psi
